Hawks YPP is a youth project for teenagers and young adults (13 - 25) of mainstream ability on the autistic spectrum, and comprises several different elements.
Hawks Youth Group meets on Thursday evenings during term time and uses Camp Mohawk as its primary venue, as well as offering regular activities in Maidenhead, Reading and Wokingham. The group participates in a variety of activities including, archery, bush craft, cookery, games nights, film nights, laser quest, bowling, trips to the cinema, meals out, go-karting, ice skating and shopping.
Hawks YPP also includes a number of 'Outward Bound' days held at Mohawk during school holidays. These are respite activity days, with activities typically including animal workshops, archery, wall climbing, lazer mission, bushcraft activities, woodland walks etc.
There is currently a waiting list in operation for places on the Thursday youth group, and we like youngsters to attend an Outward Bound event before joining. Please contact Luke Jansen for details.
CATS (Children on the AuTstic Spectrum) is an after school and holiday group which meets weekly after school. Its members are young people of mainstream ability between the ages of 8 and 13 who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
CATS members are taught life and social skills within a safe, friendly and fun environment. They are taught how to use public transport, and public amenities, how to go shopping and are able to use leisure facilities such as local swimming pools and bowling alleys. The experiences young people receive within CATS are essential to their growth as members of the community.
There are 2 branches of CATS; Maidenhead and Reading. The Reading branch meets on Wednesdays from 4.30 to 6.30pm, while the Maidenhead branch meets on Mondays from 3.45 to 5.30pm.
Every summer CATS organises 4 one week summer day camps at Camp Mohawk, which are always extremely successful. Here the children get to participate in a wide variety of activities including circus skills and swimming as well as having an end of week camp-fire and BBQ.
Please see below for the CATS brochure, which includes contact details for both branches.
